I’ve recently become utterly *obsessed* with all things ikat.

My love affair with patterns and colour blocking started years ago. As I’ve mentioned before, I mostly wear neutral colours, so using patterned headbands (high school), scarves, bracelets and other accessory items are how I add brighten an ensemble.

Now, I’m mostly looking towards ikat in terms of home decor rather than in fashion.

Ikat fabrics are one of the world’s oldest known patterned textiles in the world.  It is a dyeing technique in which certain threads are “bound” so that it resists any colour. After the dyeing process, the fabric is ready to be woven into cloth. No one can say exactly who “invented” the process, but the pattern does show up in cultures in South America and Asia.

For me, ikat patterns not only look chic and add instant glamour to a room or design, but it also evokes the notion of travelling; like I went somewhere exotic and this ikat ____ came back home with me.

The ability to layer ikat patterns and to use it on anything from dinner plates to backpacks, adds to its versatility.

All in all, what’s not to love?!
